MERLIN has been in Liberia since 1997, and currently supports the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MOH&SW) in implementing the Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS), among other health-sector related activities, in Montserrado, Grand Bassa, Grand Gedeh, Maryland, Sinoe and Grand Kru Counties.

Overall mission:
To carry out all repairs, standard maintenance and preventive maintenance activities for vehicles, generators and other mechanical assets of the project. To transport people and equipment, and to ensure that security, safety and legal requirements for driving Merlin vehicles are always observed and followed.
. Monday to Friday 08:00 (with one hour break for lunch)
Saturdays, Sundays, Holidays on request (to a maximum of 48hrs a week)

| JOB DESCRIPTION: |
Overall Mission: To transport people and equipment, and to ensure that security, safety and legal requirements for driving Merlin vehicles are always observed and followed Responsibilities and duties Responsibility 1: Transportation of people and equipment under good security conditions
Drive Merlin vehicles always in full compliance with the existing traffic law and safely to ensure highest possible security for passengers and goods;
Ensure that vehicles are only used if they are in roadworthy conditions and that safety belts are used by the driver and passengers where available;
Ensure that the vehicle log sheets and other administrative forms are always filled accurate and in timely manner;
Check accuracy of the waybill, count stock items, ensure signature from the receiver and return copy of signed waybill to sender when transporting goods.
Responsibility 2: Reporting
Report vehicle movements via HF/VHF radio when departing or arriving at a location. On a long journey, provide the radio operators at base hourly updates on the vehicle location;
Responsibility 3: Preparation of the car before departure
Carry out the requested daily vehicle checks;
Ensure that the mobile has enough fuel for any planned trip and is refueled every night;
Ensure that the mobile is properly equipped with medical kit, jack, wheel wrench, shovel, tools etc. in accordance with the list provided by the Administration, updated car documents, security guidelines and maps;
Help loading and offloading his car.
Others:
Remain with vehicles at all times when in the field and ensure its safety and that of its contents – including at night if road conditions or other situations prevent the vehicle returning to base;
Assist mechanics when working on his car;
Perform other tasks as required by line manager.
As MERLIN is working in a constantly changing humanitarian aid environment, reasonable specific work duties may be requested that may not fit into the above job description, but which will help promote over all programs goals and aims. Similarly while work on weekends will not normally be required, requests to do so should be regarded as falling within the 48hr working week stipulated within MERLIN’s standard working contract, of which this job description forms a part

| JOB REQUIREMENT: |
Essential requirements:
Valid driving license;
Minimum two years experience as a driver with an NGO, including experience in poor road conditions;
Good spoken and written English;
Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge;
Willing to work in a remote location;
Ability to keep calm and work under stressful conditions.
Desirable requirements:
Basic mechanic knowledge
Knowledge of the county
